Empowering your Journey with Letters of Support

We believe in the importance of every person’s journey towards authenticity. We’ve worked with many clients, helping them navigate the gender-affirming care process with ease. Mandy is trained in the WPATH standards of care and has written letters accepted by various surgical centers and insurance companies. Our goal is to make sure you feel supported, confident, and respected every step of the way!

What Are Letters of Support?

Gender-affirming care letters are needed to access procedures like hormone replacement therapy (HRT) or surgeries such as top and bottom surgery, as required by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). These letters confirm that the procedure is medically necessary, which helps with insurance coverage, and they also make sure you understand the risks and benefits, are mentally stable, and have follow-up support if needed. These letters aren’t about questioning if you’re “trans enough” or “non-binary enough”—they’re part of an informed consent process to ensure you know what you’re getting into. Mandy is trained in the WPATH Standards of Care and offers this service to folks in California and Indiana.

Scheduling and Availability

If you’re looking for a letter for gender-affirming care, please click the button below or contact me via phone to schedule an appointment. In your message, let me know you’re requesting a GALAP appointment. I offer two letter-writing slots each month. If there are no available slots or you need a letter sooner, please check the GALAP directory for other providers. The appointment can be done via telehealth or in-person, but you’ll need to be physically located in California during the session. It is important to note that you do not have to be receiving treatment from or sign up for treatment with me to receive a letter of support. If you would like to see me as your therapist, just let me know and we can talk about it!

Letters of Support: How It Works

Step 1: Scheduling

Step 2: Paperwork

Once you schedule an appointment, I’ll send you some paperwork to give you an idea of how my practice works and to help me understand what kind of letter you need. This paperwork includes your basic demographic information, your consent for the service, and other important information about you, so you will need to send it back at least 24 hours before our session so I can review everything.

Step 3: The Appointment

On the day of our meeting, we’ll chat for about an hour to an hour and a half over a secure telehealth platform or in-person at my office. This is your chance to ask any questions and share what’s important to you. I’ll ask you a number of questions about your life but there’s no “test” or need to prove anything—I’m here to support you in making decisions that feel right for you. If the appointment is for a minor, I require a parent to be present for part of the interview. This helps me assess the child’s home and family support as well as address any questions or concerns the family may have.

Step 4: Writing Your Letter

After our appointment, I’ll write the letter within 7 business days and send it to you for feedback. If you need any changes, I’ll make them and send it back to you within a week. If your medical team needs any follow-up or updates, I’m happy to coordinate with them to make sure everything’s in order. I will keep a copy of your letter on file in your medical record for 7 years, in compliance with HIPPA requirements. If you need a copy of your letter within that time frame, please reach out to let us know!

Support Letter FAQs

What if my medical provider needs more information or follow-up?

If your medical provider needs any follow-up or further details, I’m happy to coordinate with them on your behalf to ensure everything is in order.

What if my letter needs to be updated later?

If your medical provider requests any changes or updates to the letter, I’m happy to revise it and send it back to you. Just let me know what’s needed, and we’ll make sure it’s taken care of.

Can I get a letter if I’m not a client of yours?

No, you don’t need to be a current therapy client to receive a gender-affirming care letter. You can schedule an appointment just for the letter, and we’ll discuss your needs during the session.

Do you offer letters for more than one procedure at a time?

Yes, I provide letters for procedures like hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and gender-affirming surgeries (top surgery, bottom surgery, etc.). In your letter, I will identify the specific procedures for which you are seeking care so that your medical team knows you have discussed these procedures, their risks, and their benefits with me.

What if I need a letter sooner than your availability?

I offer two letter-writing slots each month. If there are no available slots or you need a letter sooner, you can check the GALAP directory to find other providers who may be able to help sooner. If you are in California, I can also provide referrals to other providers who may have availability.

Can I get a letter if I don’t live in California or Indiana?

At this time, I can only provide letters for individuals located in California or Indiana during the appointment, as I’m licensed in these states.
